AlcoLog v1.1.0 is rolling out this week, and it brings the most-requested feature since launch: BAC Estimation. Here is what it does, how we have framed it responsibly, and the smaller improvements that come with it.

# BAC Estimation: a live estimate, on your device

During a drinking session, AlcoLog can now show you an estimated Blood Alcohol Content. It is computed on your device from the drinks you log, your body weight, and your biological sex, using the Widmark formula, and it updates live on your Home screen, rising and falling as the session goes on. You can add an optional alert that lets you know when your estimate crosses a number you choose, and Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets keep the estimate in view.

It is free on iPhone. The Apple Watch BAC tile and complications are included with Premium.

# The responsible part, which matters most

BAC Estimation is a personal-awareness estimate, and we have built it to be honest about that. It is not a measurement, and it is not medical or legal advice. Real blood alcohol depends on many things AlcoLog cannot know: how much you have eaten, your metabolism, medications, hydration, health conditions, and the exact strength and timing of what you drank. The number can be higher or lower than your actual blood alcohol at any moment.

It does not, and cannot, tell you whether you are safe or legal to drive. It is never compared to any legal limit. When you turn it on, AlcoLog asks you to read and accept a plain-language explanation of these limits first, and a reminder stays on the card the whole time you use it:

Estimate only. Don’t drive.

If you want a walkthrough of setting it up and reading it, see How to Use BAC Estimation.

# Also in this release

  • A clearer upgrade experience in Settings, so it is easier to see what each tier includes.
  • Smoother access to your Siri Commands.
  • Fixes and polish throughout.

Two things worth restating, since they are part of what makes AlcoLog AlcoLog: the app is now fully available in German, and everything stays private and on-device with no account. The new BAC estimate is no exception. It is computed on your phone and never shared.

Track smarter. Drink better. v1.1.0 is rolling out on the App Store this week.
