Features
Here's a list of everything AlcoLog can do, grouped for scanning. 300+ hours of development have gone into AlcoLog, with every UI element and small detail carefully considered.
Every feature below was built around five principles: log a drink in one tap, don't make tracking feel like a chore, stay front and center during sessions (the moments when it matters most), never nag the user, and give you full control. AlcoLog sells you nothing you don't need and gets out of your way the rest of the time.

Session Tracking Free
One tap starts a session. The timer ticks, every logged drink rolls into live stats, and you end whenever you're done. Sessions can run past midnight, back-date anywhere up to 24 hours, and resume automatically if you log late.
- Start, end, and resume sessions with a live HH:MM:SS timer
- Log beer, wine, cocktails, spirits, hard seltzers, water, and soft drinks
- Quick-add the last drink or the last favorite with a single tap
- Session-active stat line: drinks, units, calories, cost (in your chosen currency)
- Choose a currency for any drink you log Premium
- "Another {drink}" button color-matched to the last drink type
- Auto-stop after inactivity (choose 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, or 120 minutes)
- Resume window picker down to "End Immediately" if you prefer no resume
- Session end review every 10th session with a feedback or review prompt
- Rotating quote card during active sessions, plus the personal Motivational Note card
Add a past session Free
Forgot to log a night? Add it afterwards. A past session is not a second-class entry: it gets the same timeline, the same totals, and the same AlcoScore treatment as one logged live, so your history stays accurate even when your memory does not.
- Pick the date and start time, then add drinks with their own timestamps
- Counts toward your weekly goal, streaks, and AlcoScore exactly like a live session
- Back-dating a drink into an existing session recalculates that session's duration and totals
Sober Mode Free
New in 2.0. AlcoLog now works for people who want to stop drinking as well as people cutting back, in the same app. Swipe the Home screen into Sober Mode and AlcoLog counts your alcohol-free days instead of your drinks. Swipe back and drink logging returns straight away.
- Switch with a swipe on Home, or under Settings > App Mode. Choosing Quit as your goal turns it on for you
- Tell AlcoLog when your last drink was and it counts from the day after
- Alcohol-free day count on Home, with your next milestone and your last seven days
- A ten-second check-in each evening: how the day went and your mood
- Milestones from day 1 to a year and beyond, each one marked as it lands
- Craving button: a breathing circle you follow by eye or feel through haptics, with five music loops or silence
- Money, calories and units saved since you stopped, worked out from your last 90 days of logging, or from a description of your usual week if you stopped before you found AlcoLog. Prices are editable
- A calm way to log a slip that erases nothing: your alcohol-free days stay in History
- Tap any day in History to see that day's check-in, the cravings you rode out and your notes together
- Drink logging pauses while Sober Mode is on and comes straight back when you turn it off. Every check-in, streak, note and History day is kept either way
Sober Mode alerts Free
- Evening check-in reminder
- Milestone celebrations
- Optional morning pledge
- On your hardest days, a line from your own motivational notes an hour before your sessions used to start
- Each one can be turned off
Add Drink & Drink Library
1,174 drinks & brands, 92 region-aware size presets, 8 regions. Beer 596, spirits 441, liqueur 93 and wine 44, plus 44 cocktail and mocktail recipes and 53 alcohol-free brands. A built-in catalog so you never have to guess ABV or calories. Every value is editable: override anything, save custom favorites, scan a barcode, or identify a drink from a photo on-device.
Drink types and sizes Free
- Add Drink is three numbered steps on one screen: what you are drinking, how much, and when and where. Sizes open on your own region, so the list is short enough to see at once
- 5 top-level drink types: Beer, Wine, Cocktail, Spirits & Seltzers, and Water
- 11 subtypes layered on top: Beer · Cider · Red · White · Rosé · Sparkling · Fortified & Dessert · Spirit · Seltzer · Cocktail · Liqueur
- 92 size / measurement presets: 37 beer · 18 wine · 13 cocktail & liqueur · 24 spirit & seltzer, all region-aware
- 8 regions covered: UK · USA · EU · Australia · Philippines · Korea · Ireland · Canada + global imports
- Glass sizes follow the region you are actually in, so a pint means the right thing in London, New York, or Sydney
- Region filter chips on the size picker surface your locale first (UK pint, US pint, AU schooner, EU standard, India peg, PH Red Horse Litro, etc.)
- "(Shot)" and "(Shot - Double)" suffixes on every neat spirit/liqueur pour so shot terminology is readable regardless of whether your local label says "single", "double", "peg", or "standard"
- Seltzer sizes auto-snap ABV to 5% (or 8% for "strong can") when picked
- Custom size as the last row of the size list on Add Drink, Edit Drink and Favorites: any volume in ml or fl oz, remembered for next time
- Back-date any drink up to 24 hours via an inline time picker
- Edit or delete any drink already in the current session, with a confirmation alert before destructive actions
Real brands across every category Free
Picking any branded drink auto-fills ABV and calories from the catalog. No more Googling a beer you've never tried before.
- 596 beers & ciders: Guinness, Heineken, Stella, Peroni, BrewDog, Camden Hells, Corona, Budweiser, Blue Moon, Sierra Nevada, Carlsberg, Asahi, Sapporo, Kirin, Tsingtao, Tiger, San Miguel (UK + PH variants), Red Horse, VB, XXXX Gold, Strongbow, Kopparberg, Angry Orchard, and more
- 441 spirits & hard seltzers: Gordon's, Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Hendrick's, Jack Daniel's, Maker's Mark, Tito's, Grey Goose, Bacardí, Patrón, Jameson, Glenfiddich, Hibiki, Yamazaki, 7 Korean sojus (Jinro, Chum-Churum), Tanduay, Emperador, plus White Claw, Truly, High Noon, Bud Light Seltzer, Kopparberg Hard Seltzer, San Mig Hard Seltzer and more
- 44 wine varietals: 13 reds, 11 whites, 5 rosés, 8 sparkling, 7 fortified & dessert: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Chianti, Rioja, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Albariño, Provence Rosé, Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, Port, Sherry, Madeira, Ice Wine, and more
- 29 branded liqueurs: Baileys, Aperol, Campari, Disaronno, Sambuca, Limoncello, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, Chambord, Chartreuse, Pimm's, Drambuie, Kahlúa, RumChata, Midori, Jägermeister, Ouzo, and more
- 44 cocktail & mocktail recipes: 32 classics (Margarita, Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Negroni, Espresso Martini, Aperol Spritz, Piña Colada, Mai Tai, Long Island, Bloody Mary, Mimosa, French 75) + 12 mocktails
- Region-aware sort: your detected region surfaces first in every picker. Search brands by name.
- Manually editing ABV or calories beyond a small tolerance clears the brand so the summary never misrepresents what you logged
Alcohol-free, sober-curious, and everything in between Free
AlcoLog is fully usable sober. Tracking a dry month, cutting back, or just picking a 0.0% on a weeknight? Every category has alcohol-free options built in, and zero-alcohol drinks are clearly badged (0% Beer (n)) on the session timeline so you can see how much alcohol-free drinking you did at a glance.
- 65 alcohol-free options across every category, counted at 0.5% ABV or below, the threshold most markets treat as alcohol-free
- 28 zero-alcohol beers & ciders: Heineken 0.0, Guinness 0.0, Peroni 0.0, Budweiser Zero, Corona Cero, Lucky Saint, BrewDog Punk AF, Beck's Blue, Athletic Brewing (Run Wild, Upside Dawn), Erdinger Alkoholfrei, Heaps Normal, Thatchers Zero, Kopparberg AF, Old Mout AF, and more
- 14 zero-proof spirits & seltzers: the full Seedlip range (Garden 108, Grove 42, Spice 94), Tanqueray 0.0, Gordon's 0.0, Pentire Adrift, Lyre's (Dry London, White Cane, American Malt, Italian Spritz), Ritual Zero Proof, Monday Zero Alcohol, Everleaf Mountain Spritz
- 8 zero-proof liqueurs: Lyre's Italian Orange, Lyre's Amaretti, Lyre's Coffee Originale, Everleaf Forest, Everleaf Marine, Crossip Dandy Smoke, and more
- 12 mocktails: Virgin Mojito, Virgin Mary, Nojito, Seedlip & Tonic, Virgin Piña Colada, Virgin Margarita, Virgin Espresso Martini, Shirley Temple, Roy Rogers, Arnold Palmer, and more
- 3 alcohol-free wines: 0% Red, 0% White, 0% Sparkling (Noughty-style)
Custom values Free
- Edit ABV, calories, or cost on any drink to override the brand defaults
- One-tap "Reset all values to default" when you've customized
- Session summary shows units, calories, and cost live as you edit
Barcode scanner Premium
Scan a bottle or can and AlcoLog looks up ABV and calories across multiple open data sources in parallel.
- Premium searches four providers simultaneously: Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, LCBO.dev, and FatSecret
- FatSecret is queried through our own proxy, for nutrition accuracy on branded drinks. The other three are queried directly from your device
- User-entered data always wins over any API result. Correct a wrong ABV from a scan and AlcoLog remembers your figure for that barcode next time
- First-time explainer sheet documents the providers and the privacy policy (no scan history is sent to AlcoLog)
Photo Recognition Free
Tap the camera button on the Add Drink form, where photo, menu and barcode now sit together, and choose a photo to identify a drink. Apple's Vision framework on iOS, and Google ML Kit on Android, analyze the image entirely on-device in around 300ms and surfaces drink-type and size guesses for you to confirm before logging.
- Snap a fresh photo or pick one from your camera roll (PhotosPicker, no permission required)
- The image classifier runs locally on both platforms: the photo never leaves your device, never touches our servers, never goes to any third party
- Drink-type guess (Beer, Wine, Spirits, etc.) plus a sensible default size pre-fill the form, ready for you to tweak before saving
- First-time explainer sheet documents what's happening on-device and reassures you nothing is uploaded
- Available to every user, no subscription required
Favorites Premium
- Save any drink (type + size + ABV + calories + cost) as a named favorite
- Tap a favorite on the Add Drink screen to log it instantly
- Long-press for edit or delete, drag-to-reorder the favorites row
- Favorites also populate the "Another {name}" quick-add button on the home screen
Receipt scanning Premium
Point the camera at a bar or restaurant receipt and AlcoLog reads the drinks off it and adds the whole round in one go. It lives on Add Drink when you add a past session, and on "Add drink" for a finished session in History, not in a live session.
- Everything it finds appears in a review list first, with a tick beside each item
- Untick anything it misread; nothing is saved until you confirm
- Runs on-device through Apple Vision. The image is not uploaded anywhere
- Matches what it reads against the drinks catalog to fill in ABV and calories
Menu Scanner Premium
Point the camera at the bar's drinks menu, crop to the line you ordered, and AlcoLog reads the drink's name and the price this venue charges.
- Runs on-device. The image is not uploaded anywhere
- Fills in the drink and that venue's price, ready for you to confirm before logging
- Photo, menu and barcode sit together behind the one camera button on Add Drink
Onboarding & Your Goal Free
First launch is a short setup that asks the one question that shapes the rest of your experience: what brings you here? Whatever you pick (cut back, stay under a limit, build sober days, quit entirely, or just track) becomes the Your Goal card on your AlcoScore screen and sets your weekly progress framing for everything that follows. Your goal is a parallel surface, not part of the AlcoScore calculation, so you can change it any time without your score moving.
The five goal types
- Cut back: drink less than your current baseline. Weekly target self-set; the card tracks your progress against it.
- Stay under a limit: defaults to your region's weekly health authority guideline (14 units in the UK, equivalent local values elsewhere) and you can adjust it.
- Build sober days: pick a target number of dry days each week; the card counts up as the week unfolds.
- Quit entirely: turns on Sober Mode, which counts your alcohol-free days from the day after your last drink, with milestone celebrations baked in.
- Just track: no goal, no pressure, no Your Goal card. The rest of the app works exactly the same.
Your Goal card on the AlcoScore screen
The card sits directly under the AlcoScore dial, above LAST SESSION. It morphs based on your goal type and how the week is going.
- Running card: this week's progress toward your target, a color-coded progress bar, and a 7-day strip for this week. Tap the card to see your last four weeks in Goal History. A soft "On Track" pill appears when you're under target. We never show negative status pills, and the footer copy is always forward-looking ("X days left this week") rather than punishing ("X over").
- Quit Streak card: a large hero showing "DAY", your day count, and "Started" with your start date, replacing the running card for the Quit goal type.
- Achievement card: triggers automatically after four consecutive weeks under your cap goal, or four weeks at your dry-day target for Build sober days. Gold trophy, four-cell streak row, and a "Reflect on Your Goal" CTA that opens the celebration sheet.
- Milestone card: triggers on your sobriety milestones at Day 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 180, 365, and 730. Tier-themed visuals progress as your streak grows (teal in the early days, then silver, bronze, gold, and platinum at the longer milestones).
- Tap any celebration card to open a reflection sheet with confetti, your stats over the achievement window, and the option to keep the goal or evolve it (re-pick the type, adjust the target). The CTA reads "Reflect on Your Goal" rather than "Update Your Goal" so users who are succeeding don't feel pressured to change.
Changing your goal at any time
- Settings > Goal opens the same picker used in onboarding. Switch goal types or adjust your target whenever it suits you. Your alcohol-free start date is set in Settings > App Mode, under "Alcohol-free since".
- Changing goals never changes your AlcoScore. The score is computed from your drinking patterns over a rolling 28-day window; the goal sits alongside it as a parallel encouragement surface.
- "Just Track" users see no Your Goal card at all, and the rest of the AlcoScore screen renders unchanged.
AlcoScore Free
A 0–100 health score that analyzes your drinking across six weighted pillars: frequency (25%), intensity (25%), trend (20%), control (10%), behavior (10%), and recovery (10%). The score uses a rolling 28-day window, unlocks after your first completed session, and updates at the end of every session. Your Goal card (covered above) sits on the same screen as a parallel encouragement surface; it is not factored into the score itself.
- Score dial with breathing glow and chase highlight. Animation speed tracks your score band (Legendary breathes slowly, Concerning faster)
- Six pillar bars with tap-to-explain detail panels
- Proud Points and Pinch Points after every session (e.g. "Stayed within your 6 unit limit", "Faster than your recent average pace")
- Helping Your Score and Harming Your Score cards across all sessions
- Confetti and haptic burst every time the dial shows Great or higher
- "Building Score" state until your first completed session
- Your Goal card on the same screen, separate from the score and never influencing it
- Medication use is deliberately excluded from scoring: no bonus or penalty for logging doses
BAC Estimation Free
Available on Android only. BAC Estimation is not available on iPhone. During an active session, AlcoLog shows an estimated Blood Alcohol Content, computed on your device from your logged drinks, body weight, and biological sex using the Widmark formula. It is a personal-awareness estimate, not a measurement, and not medical or legal advice. Estimate only. Don't drive.
- Live estimated BAC on the Home screen during a session, with Rising and Declining states Free
- Peak estimated BAC for the session Free
- Optional alert when your estimate crosses a threshold you choose Free
- On-device only, no account, never shared Free
History & Trends Free
Every session you've ever logged, visualized three ways: monthly cards, a line graph, and a calendar heatmap. Every chart is interactive.
- Monthly Overview strip with sessions, drinks, units, calories, and cost per month
- Trend arrows per row (red up, green down, blue dash) and 🎊 emoji when every metric is lower than the previous month
- Trend graph: pick a metric (Sessions / Drinks / Units / Calories / Cost) and a range (1M / 3M / 6M / 1Y / All)
- Rolling average overlay on the trend graph, window size adapts to the selected range
- Tap the chart to enter a landscape fullscreen view; swipe up or down to shift by one month in the 1-month range
- Calendar heatmap with accent-tinted intensity per day, weekday headers, and month-to-month navigation
- Sober-streak trophies: 🏆 on any sober day inside a streak, with a star + run count for streaks of 2 or more
- Tap any sober day to toggle a manual override (e.g. mark a fasting day as non-sober or vice versa)
- Best Ever sober streak chip in the legend
- All Sessions list with expandable session cards, per-session drink breakdown, tap and hold a card to delete it (Delete Session)
- Linked navigation: swipe the monthly overview or the calendar and the other follows. The sessions list scrolls separately

Location triggers Premium
- Auto-start a session on arrival at a saved location
- Auto-end a session on departure
- Uses your shared pool of saved locations (see the Locations section for the per-tier cap)

Medication redose and location reminders
- Redose timers per medication, set in hours + minutes Free
- Per-medication location reminders (arrival, departure, or both) Premium
- Uses your shared pool of saved locations (see the Locations section for the per-tier cap) Premium
Medications Free
A logging tool for eight alcohol-related preparations. AlcoLog is not a medical device and does not provide advice. It tracks doses you log yourself.
- Naltrexone (Revia, Vivitrol): The Sinclair Method
- Nalmefene (Selincro): as-needed, EMA approved
- Acamprosate (Campral): abstinence support
- Disulfiram (Antabuse): aversion therapy
- Gabapentin (Neurontin): off-label
- Topiramate (Topamax): off-label
- GLP-1 agonists (semaglutide and related): emerging evidence for alcohol cravings
- Recovery Supplements (DrinkAid, Myrkl, Revibe): over-the-counter
Each medication card has its own color, method description, dose logging with a 24-hour time picker, last-24h dose list, and redose timer. A dose reminder can tell you when the next dose is due and let you log it straight from the notification. Set medication up when you first open the app, or any time from the Home screen. Location reminders per medication are Premium.
Locations
AlcoLog can auto-tag each drink with a place and keeps a single shared pool of saved locations that every location-aware feature reuses — session triggers, medication reminders, drink tagging, and your Home Location. Locations are never sent to AlcoLog or any third party. The location system is a Premium feature; existing users who already had location features keep them at no charge.
Drink location tagging Premium
- Opt-in tagging captures the location automatically on each logged drink
- Session Timeline chart shows a colored dot per drink for each location, with the Home icon for drinks logged at home
- Smart drift handling: drinks logged within the same location stay grouped; drinks that drift beyond the zone flag as "uncertain" with an amber tint
- Manual override at any time: set, change, or clear the location on any drink
- Location data is never sent to AlcoLog or any third party. Place names are looked up with Apple Maps, and iCloud backup (if on) saves your locations to your own iCloud.
Shared pool of saved locations Premium
AlcoLog keeps a single pool of saved locations. Any place you save is reusable across every feature that works with places — session triggers, medication reminders, drink tagging, and your Home Location. The pool holds:
- Up to 50 saved locations
- Per-location detection radius picker (50m / 100m / 250m / 500m)
- "In use by" block shows which app features reference each location
Home Location Premium
- Mark any one of your saved locations as home for special behavior
- Optional Arrive rule: auto-start or auto-end a session on arrival, on days and times you choose
- Optional Leave rule: same, on departure
- Per-rule weekday multi-select with Weekdays / Weekends / All presets
- Time window picker that wraps past midnight (e.g. 21:00 to 04:00)
- 3-minute exit debounce prevents false "leave" triggers on trash runs and similar short exits
- Home geofence is excluded from the generic session triggers, so ordinary morning commutes never start or end a session
Currency auto-switch Premium
- Optional toggle to flip your default currency to match the region you're in
- Uses GPS location to detect your region (requires location permission)
- Shows the detected country and currency code when on
Session map Premium
Every drink you log can carry the place you logged it, and the session map lays the night out geographically rather than as a list.
- One pin for each place you drank, grouped from your drinks' own locations, showing what you had there and when
- Useful for spotting that where you drink predicts how much you drink better than when
- Built from the location each drink was tagged with (drink location tagging is Premium), not from your saved locations

Apple Health & Health Connect Free
AlcoLog writes your drinks, calories and water to Apple Health on iOS, plus your Sober Mode moods if you allow it, and to Health Connect on Android. The Apple Health sync is one-way: AlcoLog reads nothing from it.
- Writes Alcoholic Beverages under Nutrition at each drink's real size in your country's standard drinks, not a flat 1 per drink. Editing or deleting a drink updates or removes its Health samples
- Writes Calories from Drinks into dietary energy intake
- Writes Water as dietary water intake. This is the volume of anything logged with the Add Water / Soft Drink button, so soft drinks count toward it as well as water, because Apple Health treats the figure as fluid intake rather than water specifically
- Optionally writes the mood from your Sober Mode evening check-in to State of Mind. Moods can be switched off separately
- On Android, writes the same calories and water to Health Connect as Nutrition and Hydration
- On Android only, reads your most recent weight from Health Connect if you allow it, used on your device as an input to the blood alcohol estimate. Enter a weight yourself instead and the feature works exactly the same
- Data is written on session end
- AlcoLog does not read heart rate, steps, sleep, or any other health data
- Review and delete AlcoLog's contributions from the Health app at any time
Haptics Free
A tuned haptic system with four categories that fire on taps, buttons, expansions, and special moments like an AlcoScore chase or confetti burst.
- Master haptics toggle
- Four per-category intensity sliders (0–100%): Navigation, Button, Movement, Special
- Live preview on drag: each slider plays its own sample pattern
- Strength sliders are for the iPhone app; the haptics on/off switch applies to both iPhone and Apple Watch
Siri Shortcuts Premium
- 10 shortcuts for hands-free session control and quick-adds (start session, end session, add drink, add water, log medication, and more)
