If you’d like to support AlcoLog’s development beyond (or instead of) Premium, the Buy Me a Drink tip jar is a one-tap way to do it. This tutorial covers where it lives, the five tip sizes, and the boundary between tipping and Premium.
# Step 1. Find the tip jar
Tap the Settings tab and scroll down. The Buy Me a Drink card sits near the bottom, below Alcohol Related Resources and above About. It’s collapsed by default. Tap Show Tip Options to expand it.
The tip jar is tucked away deliberately: tipping is fully optional, isn’t a paywalled feature, and shouldn’t get in the way of normal app use.
# Step 2. Pick a size
Five one-off tips are available, each with its own emoji:
- 🍺 Buy me half a pint ($0.99)
- 🍻 Buy me a pint ($2.99)
- 🥃 Buy me a double ($4.99)
- 🍷 Buy me a round ($9.99)
- 🍾 Buy the bar a round ($49.99)
Prices are shown in your own currency, straight from the App Store, so they may differ from the US prices above.
Tap any row. Apple’s standard purchase confirmation sheet appears (Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode). The tip is processed by the App Store; AlcoLog never sees your payment details.
# Step 3. The thank-you
While the purchase goes through, a small spinner replaces that row’s price. After a successful tip, confetti falls over the Settings screen, with a burst of hearts and a celebration haptic.
You can tip as many times as you like. Each tip is a separate one-off purchase: no subscription, no auto-renewal.
# Step 4. The boundary with Premium
Tipping does not unlock any features. Premium is the only way to unlock features like favorites, the barcode scanner, location triggers, iCloud backup, PDF reports, the Apple Watch app and alternate app icons.
Tips and Premium are separate App Store products and don’t interact. A Buy the bar a round tip won’t give you Premium, and Premium doesn’t include any tips. Both live in Settings: Premium in the Subscription section at the top, the tip jar near the bottom. Because each tip is a one-off, there is nothing to restore: Restore Purchase brings back Premium only (on the Premium screen, the screen closes as soon as Premium is back).
That’s the whole tip jar. Five sizes, no obligation, no feature unlocks.
